Iago, who has served alongside Othello for a decade, is angered when the general chooses another lieutenant, Cassio, as his second in command. In retribution, Iago sabotages Cassio's promotion and convinces Othello that the handsome officer is cuckolding him. Othello writhes under the tortures Iago has created, and in a fit of jealousy smothers Desdemona, who caresses her beloved husband as she dies."@en

(LaFeltrinelli)."

The Warrior rules armies but not his own heart in this tale set in Renaissance Venice - yet belonging to the ages. • "Othello "loves not wisely, but too well." Desdemona epitomizes unconditional love. Coming between them is their most trusted friend, Iago. On the outside he is honest and good--but on the inside, he is perhaps the most cunning villain of all time, orchestrating an entire chain of fateful events. Through the power of an untrue word--and a stolen token of a bond once thought unbreakable--Desdemona becomes everything she is not, in the eyes of a man who can no longer see clearly."@en
