Its rapid progress in the past few decades has raised a number of juridical problems and given rise to a new branch of international law: international space law. The contributors have compiled and examined a wealth of factual data concerning the latest achievements in space exploration, and the peaceful uses of space vehicles in communications, navigation, geodesy, and meteorology. A leading space power, the Soviet Union is a Party to the 1967 International Treaty on Principles Governing the Activities of States in the Exploration and Use of Outer Space, and it is engaged in extensive practical cooperation with many other states in this field. With an eye to these diversified activities, the writers of the book have given special attention to the most important principles and norms of international space law, and to analyzing the bilateral and multilateral agreements on individual aspects of space activities.
