  • "Colleen Moore, who plays the title character in this silent film, epitomized the 1920's comic heroine and appeared in a number of sprightly comedies. The source for this romantic comedy-cum-fairy tale is William Conselman and Charles Plumb's syndicated comic strip entitled "Cinderella in the movies." Ella, who slaves in the Cinders household to ensure the comfort of her stepsisters Lotta and Prissy Pill, is in love with Waite Lifter, the local iceman and football star. When a movie contest is announced, Ella, dressed in one of Lotta's ball gowns, has herself photographed looking remarkably like the illustrious comedic actor Ben Turpin. Winning the contest by having a "new and funnier face," Ella is sent to Hollywood. Arriving in Tinsel Town, however, Ella finds herself jobless. After a chase with a gateman, Ella gains entry to a studio, and disrupts numerous productions. Caught in a fire scene and thinking it real, Ella is awarded a contract for splendid acting. Waite, who has promised to marry Ella, is happily reunited with her and in faithful fairy tale fashion, reveals himself to be the son of a millionaire. (Does not circulate)."@en
