Balanchine does a considerable amount of demonstrating as he works with Clifford on his solo passages, even lying on the floor to show the movements he wants. He works briefly with von Aroldingen in manipulating the tent-like draperies that form a scenic element in the ballet. The ballet was first presented on February 17, 1974."
