"This cemetery was founded by Josiah A. Dunkle in 1876 along with a second cemetery, several miles away called 'Midland' for colored folks. This cemetery is located at Steelton at the end of Lincoln Street. Names for the town then called Baldwin (1866), next called Steel Works (1871), and finally named Steelton (1880). Across Lincoln Street from Baldwin, is another 'colored' cemetery called William Howard Day. There are no restrictions as to who can be buried where. This cemetery may also contain bodies moved from Flickinger Cemetery (so Gibson Street could be made wider) and Henrick Acker (old graveyard just north of Cedar and East on Cameron)."
