Database of benthic macrofaunal biomass and productivity measurements for the eastern Canadian continental shelf, slope and adjacent areas
This report describes the development & the content of a database on measurements of biomass & productivity of seabed organisms. The database was assembled from studies in eastern North America from New England to the Canadian Arctic dating from 1954 to 2000, including primary publications, technical reports, and unpublished data from scientific studies, commercial fisheries surveys, and monitoring & baseline studies carried out for offshore petroleum exploration. Information is provided on the data sources & quality, types of samplers used, communities represented, geographic range & level of analysis of the data, how geographical references are presented, data processing & quality control, calculations & number conventions, the data platform & structure, and data files. Appendices form the bulk of the document and include synopses of the data sources and tables showing location, date & associated references of samples; location, depth, & sediment information; sampling & processing information; and biomass & productivity information.
