Status of Atlantic Salmon at Highlands River, Bay St. George, SFA 13, Newfoundland 2000

This paper describes an investigation of the status of Atlantic salmon in Highlands River, south-west Newfoundland, in 2000. Status was determined from numbers of salmon returning to a fish counting fence located above head of tide on the river's main stem. The paper summarizes smolt production & returns of adult salmon to the river and updates biological characteristic data (length, weight, sex, age) along with hydrological conditions at the river for 1982 to 2000.
