This volume traces the historical roots of advertising from the early years of this century, with special emphasis on the role of industrialization and capitalism during the 1920s. Using the words of early practitioners of advertising and business, analyzing the texts of old and contemporary advertisements, making constant reference to the broad social history of American capitalism, the author presents a critical overview of American society during this time.
