Thomas Willis (1583-1660), son of Richard Willis of Fenny Compton, Warwick County, England, and a descendant of Richard Willes (b. ca. 1350) of Napton, Warwick County, was a schoolmaster at Thistleworth (Isleworth) Middlesex. He and his children immigrated to America in 1630 and settled at Lynn, Massachusetts. He and one of his sons returned to England ca. 1646. His other son, Henry Willis, was born ca. 1618. He married Elizabeth Otis of Boston in 1642. Record chiefly follows line of descent to the authors' father, Edwin Ethelbert Willis (1827-1898?). He was born near Boonton, New Jersey, the son of Thomas Compson Willis (1791-1864) and Deborah Farrand Willis. He married Electa Caroline Cook in 1853. They had seven children, 1854-1866. She died in 1866, and he married 2) Marcia Smith Kitche, a widow, in 1873. They had a son born in 1874. Grandchildren listed lived in New Jersey, Virginia, and Mexico.
