St. Ives : being the adventures of a French prisoner in England . The misadventures of John Nicholson. The story of a lie. The body- snatcher

St. Ives tells the story of a French hussar officer Jacques St. Ives who was captured during the Napoleonic wars and held as a prisoner of war in England. He manages to escape with the help of a young maid who has caught the eye of the prison warden. This unfinished Robert Louis Stevenson novel, originally published posthumously in 1897 is another exploration of Stevenson's recurring theme of the polarity of human nature.
