The febrile child

Diagnosing causes of fever in infants and children is begun by obtaining a history of the presenting episode. A differential approach is taken with specific diagnostic tests discussed including, CBC, chest x-ray, urinalysis, and lumbar puncture to identify febrile etiology so that appropriate therapy may be initiated. Treatment by anitpyretics such as acetamenophen and ibuprofen are suggested as a means of reducing fever and preventing febrile seizures.
