  • "An atmospheric adventure film, 'Plymouth Adventure' traces the Pilgrims' treacherous journey to America in 1620 aboard the Mayflower, helmed by a cantankerous captain. Fifty men, 20 women and 32 children set sail on the commissioned voyage to take them to a new land away from religious persecution. During the sixty-five day passage, the group endures violent storms, scant rations of food and water, illness and abuse from Captain Jones and his crew, who mock their puritanical ways. Despite this however, the Captain displays dogged determination to survive the crossing and safely deliver his passengers. Following their exacting journey the Pilgrims struggle to survive the first terrible winter in America, but are aided by the rough captain, who admires their fortitude. 'Plymouth Adventure' was greatly admired for its aesthetics and special effects, but was criticised for failing to competently capture the mood of the multifariously unpleasant voyage. The film earned an Academy Award for best special effects."@en
  • "In 1620, a group of religious outcasts boarded the Mayflower in England and set sail for the New World, where they founded a tiny wilderness outpost that was the genesis for what would become the United States of America. This is their thrilling story, a tale of hardship and devotion, of storms, hunger and disease faced and defied."
