Western Europe our legacy

Many pillars of our social order and culture are the legacy of Western Europe. The ancient Greeks gave us democracy, literature, and philosophy. The Romans gave us government administration, our largely Latin-based language, and the spread of Catholicism. The Renaissance bequeathed to us an intellectual, artistic, and economic rebirth. Refugees from European religious repression colonized the New World. When the industrial revolution spread to the United States, it became a world power.
