Alaska, the last frontier?

The view of Alaska as pristine and empty wilderness is not shared by the indigenous population, and led to conflicts in the development of the Kenai Fjords National Park on a site prized by sport fishermen and hunters but valued as ancestral lands by the Denaína. Destruction of local cultures has been the experience of the past, but efforts were made here to balance the needs of indigenous peoples with economic development and modern life.
