Jacqueline DuPré (Emily Watson) was one of the greatest cellists of the 20th century, a consummate performer who dazzled audiences arund the world with the unconventional passion and beauty of her music. Her sister, Hilary (Rachel Griffiths), was a talented flautist who, by contrast, chose to live the simple life - she married, had a family and moved to the country. In spite of their differences they shared common emotions - including jealousy. As Jackie struggled with her rapid rise to fame, her journey would have incredible and devastating consequences on both her and her sister's lives.
