"Papers of Richard H. Zeitlin, a military historian and director of the Wisconsin Veterans Museum. The collection consists almost entirely of materials that document Zeitlin's researching and writing historical works. There is the original handwritten manuscript, several edited drafts, and a galley proof of the article "Beyond the Battle: the flags of the Iron Brigade, 1863-1918," which was later published as the second half of the book, "The Flags of the Iron Brigade." There are research materials and two drafts of Zeitlin's history of Camp Williams-Volk Field that also traces the corresponding development of the Wisconsin National Guard. Photocopies and handwritten notes reflect his research on Old Abe, the eagle that served as a unit mascot of the 8th Wisconsin Infantry Regiment in the Civil War. Another article dealing with the 8th Wisconsin, "Campaigning in '64: Civil War Letters of A.G. Weissert," is documented through correspondence with publishers and early drafts. A published copy of his manuscript "White Eagles in the North Woods: Polish Immigration to North Woods, 1857-1900" is also found in the collection."
