- "Called the founding father of American folk music, Woody Guthrie wrote simple songs about the strength of the human spirit and became a spokesman to his generation and a visionary influence for generations to follow. Now, with the discovery and release of Woody's Grow big songs, his influence has expanded to yet another, much younger generation. In the 1940's Woody, his wife Marjorie Mazia Guthrie wrote and illustrated a songbook for children, while some of his songs, like "Put your finger in the air," became a perennial favorite, the songbook itself was lost for forty years until it was discovered in 1990 on a shelf at the Sarah Lawrence College Library. Inspired by the discovery, Arlo Guthrie, his sister, Nora, and brother Joady, gathered their children to record all 20 Grow big songs, mixing their voices with Woody's original recordings. As a result, kids and their family can now enjoy a brand-new album of work songs, play songs and lullabies as well as the full-color songbook featuring Woody's original art work--Film."
