This film raises several important conservation issues and looks specifically at the problem of indoor atmospheric pollution. It illustrates examples of degradation, in particular a severe case of efflorescence on limestone and explains how the scientific technique of ion chromatography was used to define the chemical composition of this form of efflorescence. Also illustrated is a simple device which can be used by curators and conservators to monitor the level of two important environmental pollutants in storage cabinets.
