The outraged community wants his life, but the presiding judge commits the boy to a hospital to be treated by Dr. Martin Dysart, a child psychiatrist. Under hypnosis and a 'truth drug, ' Dr Dysart breaks through Alan's shell to find a young man torn between his mother's ultra religious piety and his father's sardonic atheism. How the doctor discovers the bizarre reasons behind the blinding (a distorted, symbolic act); how he treats Alan, and how this dramatically transforms his own life makes Equus a superb psychological thriller and a turbulent journey into the inner recesses of a troubled mind."--Jacket flap."@en
