The living weapon

In 1942, following the attack on Pearl Harbor, President Franklin D. Roosevelt received information that Germany and Japan were developing an elusive and terrifying arsenal of biological weaponry. In response, the U.S. and its allies rushed to develop their own germ warfare program, enlisting some of America's most promising scientists in the effort. The Living Weapons, a part of the PBS American Experience series, offers an unprecedented look at more than two decades of closed-door meetings, secret test sites, and human subjects, as the race ensued to turn the world's most potent germs into fierce biological weapons. It is an exploration of the challenges and moral dilemmas faced by scientists as they examined microbes not only for the benefits they can bring, but for their capability of mass destruction.
