Conducted by John Redman Coxe, professor at the University of Pennsylvania, the Emporium was mainly concerned with the state of science in Europe and was to provide practical information on scientific research, particularly information contained in foreign papers on chemistry, mineralogy, and other science topics. Lists of patents and some diagrams and pictures were included. The new series was edited by Thomas Cooper, a well-known American scientist of that time, and dealt mainly with applied science--manufacturing, machinery, engines, and geology. Cf. American periodicals, 1741-1900.
