David Dinsmoor (1714-1784), probably a son of Samuel Dinsmoor, was born in Ireland to a family of Scottish origin. He married Elizabeth Kennedy (1710-1807), a widow, and they immigrated to America in 1745, settling in New Hampshire. They had seven children. The spelling of the surname changed ca. 1775. Many descendants live in New England.
