  • "At the annual ballet recital, Elizabeth, much to her chagrin, is cast in the part of the boy. The other girls in the ballet class ridicule her; her parents are unsympathetic. Only her free-spirited Aunt Eadie seems to understand. On the night of the recital, Elizabeth chastises the audience, shouting "I'm not a boy, can't you see? I'm a girl!" Eadie takes Elizabeth under her wing, and by teaching her how to play poker, helps her come to terms with her own self-confidence."
  • "A 13-year-old girl is mortified to learn that she has been given the role of a boy in a forthcoming ballet recital, mostly because of her large size. She is forced to contend with ridicule from other students, and must also deal with the painful reality of being different and not conforming to the stereotypical image of a woman."@en
