A genealogy of Eber and Lydia Smith Baker of Marion, Ohio
Eber Baker was born on a farm in what is now Bowdoin, Maine, a son of Capt. Smith Baker (b. 1759) and Elizabeth Bunker Baker. In 1802, he married Lydia Smith (1779-1843) the early part of 1813, he decided to migrate to the little-known country west of Pennsylvania. He, with his wife and children, traveled to Wheeling, Virginia, where he bought at farm. After a year, he sold out and moved farther west to Newark, Ohio. In 1821, he found land in the interior of the state, purchased it from the government, and founded the town of Marion, Ohio. He lived in Marion for fifty-three years and died there 6 Oct. 1864, at the age of 84. Descendants lived in Ohio, Illinois, New York, and elsewhere.
