"In this introspective chronicle, the filmmaker, a 35-year-old Metis Indian who grew up as a foster child in the home of a white family, embarks on an arduous personal quest to seek out his natural family and discover the circumstances which resulted in his placement in foster care. Gil Cardinal attempts to disentangle the bureaucratic secrecy surrounding his case by questioning an uneasy social worker who is extremely reluctant to divulge information. Cardinal does learn of the tragic death of his natural mother, a victim of poverty and alcoholism. With the scant information he does extract, Cardinal finds and joyfully reunites with his mother's uncle, but is rebuffed by the man purported to be his father. Meeting the wife of his deceased brother, Gil finds consolation in establishing ties with his sibling's children and becoming part of a family once lost. The film ends happily with Gil celebrating marriages in both families."@en
