Hell to eternity

A homeless Hispanic boy is adopted and raised by a West Coast Japanese American family; he becomes a Marine in World War II, and uses his knowledge of Japanese to persuade defeated but holdout Japanese on the Island of Saipan to surrender. Much of the "extremely realistic" battle footage was shot in Okinawa, according to Variety review, Aug. 3, 1960.
