Richard Owings I (ca.1662-1716) and his family immigrated from England to Baltimore County, Maryland before 1685. They moved during or before 1695 to Anne Arundel County, and later returned to Baltimore County. Descendants and relatives lived in Maryland, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio, Missouri and elsewhere. "In the numerous references to Richard Owings in Maryland records, his name is spelled Owins, Owens, Owings and Owinges, which probably accounts for the change of name from Owen to Owings"--P. 1.
