The Wave from the Atlantic

America's civilization has evolved from the overlay and superimposition of immigrants. The immense waves of emigrants from Europe were accompanied by the rise of modernism in art, together with a sense of optimism and promise. After the Wall Street crash of 1929, this gave way to an atmoshpere of uncertainty.
