The B.C. handbook for action on child abuse and neglect for service providers

This handbook is designed to support an integrated, collaborative response to child abuse and neglect by providing information about identifying and reporting suspected child abuse and neglect, presenting an overview of relevant law and government policies, clarifying the roles and shared responsibilities of service providers, including their accountability for responding to suspected child abuse and neglect, and ensuring that responses to suspected child abuse and neglect in British Columbia are effective, consistent, and sensitive to the needs of children. The document is divided into four substantive sections: section one explains the roles and responsibilities of various groups and individuals, including service providers; section two defines child abuse and neglect and instructs service providers how to recognize the possible indicators and provides advice on handling disclosures; section three sets out the steps to follow in responding to suspected child abuse and neglect; and section four provides contact information and links to additional resources.--Includes text from document.
