"A.P., Sara and Maybelle-the Carter Family of Mace Springs, Virginia recorded more than 250 songs between 1927 and 1941 for Victor, Columbia and Decca. Their music, which started as home entertainment, helped to shape the beginning of the country music industry. In what may be their only filmed performance, Sara and Maybelle sing Sweet Fern and Solid Gone, two songs which demonstrate their influential famous guitar picking style and harmony singing. The Carter family history is reviewed through family snapshots, old 78 rpm record labels, archival publicity material and some of their original recordings."
