Sword of honour Evelyn Waugh's wartime epic
Waughs 3 novels on the second World War have been well adapted by Boyd for the screen. His semi-autobiographical hero, Guy Crouchback (Craig), goes into the war thinking it is a crusade against evil, only to discover it is the ideal environment for liars, cheats, cowards and phonies. His corrupt acquaintance, Trimmer (Coyle), becomes a war hero by accident. Guy's wife Virginia (Dodds) is a man using tramp. A slice of British decadence showing good men dying while evil men flourish. A fine anti-war movie which is a biting satire on the emergence of the world we live in today.
