The best of Peter Cook & Dudley Moore

Peter Cook and Dudley Moore were a major part of the comedy era of the '60s and '70s. Half of the charm of the show is the pair's ad-libs and the laughter they tried to hold back. Six episodes have been compiled from what remains in the BBC Archive.

  • "A tribute to two comic geniuses and their landmark 1960's TV show, Not only but also. Peter Cook and Dudley Moore created a new style of comedy which has proved the inspiration for subsequent generations of performers. It was always the way they worked together and the obvious affection between them which made Not Only But Also so special - shown best in the infamous Pete & Dud sketches in which two blokes in cloth caps discuss everything and nothing over a couple of pints. Gathering together the very best of the Not only but also years, this video celebrates a unique comic partnership."@en
  • "In 1965 the BBC harnessed the talents of Peter Cook and Dudley Moore for a new show, Not Only But Also. Building scripts from improvised recordings (although ad-libs and corpsing remained irresistible features of the final recordings), the young partnership created their own style of comedy including the memorable Dagenham Dialogues of the cloth-capped Pete and Dud, and Peter Cook s magnificent old duffer Sir Arthur Greeb-Streebling. The series continued until 1970 and remains a seminal landmark in TV comedy. Many of Cook and Moore s best sketches are captured here, including 5-4-3-2-1 , the Superthunderstingraycars, the Leaping Nuns, The Glidd of Glood, Bo Dudley and the Goodbye-ee song."
