  • "Scholars believe Shakespeare wrote his Love's Labour's Lost in the mid-1590s as the play was first published in 1598. One of the playwright's earliest dramas, the play was believed to have been written for the Inns of Court, a professional association of lawyers in England and Wales, as it includes an abundance of word play, puns and literary allusions that this audience would have been very likely to appreciate."@en

  • "In this comedy Shakespeare focuses on two subjects, the folly which lovers fall prey to and the sonnets which they write to their beloveds. Sonnet writing was in fashion when this play was written, and a lighthearted satire on this fad was a sure-fire formula for a light evening's entertainment for the very learned Queen Elizabeth I and her court."
