Als sie eine lichtergeschmückte Dschunke und in einem der Fenster einen jungen Mann, einen Prinzen entdeckt, verliebt sie sich in ihn. Das Schiff geht in einem Sturm unter und die Meerjungfrau rettet den Prinzen. Um ihren Fischschwanz zu verlieren, schwimmt sie zur Meereshexe, die ihr mit einem Zaubertrank helfen soll. Die hässliche Hexe mahnt, dass die Meerjungfrau zu Schaum wird, wenn der Prinz sie nicht heiraten wird. Zudem werde jeder Schritt mit den Beinen schrecklich schmerzen. Die Meerjungfrau willigt trotzdem ein. Für den Trank muss sie teuer bezahlen, die Hexe schneidet ihr die Zunge heraus, um die wunderschöne Stimme der Meerjungfrau zu erhalten. Der Prinz ist entzückt von der stummen schönen Frau, heiratet jedoch eine andere. Das Herz der kleinen Meerjungfrau zerbricht und sie wird zu Schaum der Wellen. Ein traurig-schönes Märchen. Die feinen und grossflächigen Bilder mit asiatischem Touch sind bezaubernd und ergänzen den Text bestens. Ab 10 Jahren, ****, Jeanne Locher-Polier."
