Finite oceans you xian de da hai

Dr. Roger Payne presents a view of oceans as finite bodies of water--a view diametrically opposed to preconceptions about the "limitless" seas into which we discard vast quantities of toxic, industrial wastes (immortal synthetic poisons). Learn how small concentrations of pollutants such as DDT, PCBs and pesticides threaten ecosystems at all levels. While it's early to see the effects of chemicals we produce on the oceans, we can clearly see their effects on the large bodies of fresh water such as the Great Lakes. The effects of chemical pollution of water is shown as a warning about problems that threaten not only wildlife but human lives as well.

  • "By examining the effects of pollution on the Great Lakes, the programs explores how industrial wastes and pollutants, such as PCBs, DDT, and petrochemicals, are threatening the ecosystems of the ocean. Also explores solutions through alternative power sources and aquaculture."

  • "Although humans have long assumed that the oceans are too vast to ruin, it is becoming clear that they cannot absorb, dissolve, and purify all that we produce. Finite oceans wakes us up to the limintations of the oceans as it explores new ways we can repair the damage that has already been done."
  • "Examines the effects of various forms of pollution on the water of the Great Lakes, especially the toxins (chlorine, organohalogens, DDT, PCB, lead, mercury) that have entered the food chain, and considers these consequences an early warning for the oceans. Discusses some solutions such as alternatives to fossil fuels, biodegradable plastics and chlorine-free paper production."
