"Papers document Hankey's attempt to bridge practical law enforcement experience and the study of law enforcement and police administration. Collection encompasses Hankey's personal papers such as his dissertation entitled "Personality in a Role of Authority", 1968; articles and texts of speeches related to various aspects of criminal justice; and photographs, 1915-1979. Many letters are from former students who fought in the Korean War. Correspondents relating to other issues include August Vollmer and O.W. Wilson. Papers from Hankey's academic career include reports, press releases, and related material pertaining to his teaching career and outreach activities at the California State College at Los Angeles, 1958-1971, and Linn-Benton Community College, Albany, Oregon, 1971-1979. Papers of the California Police Officers Training Program reveal state of police training in the 1950s and 1960s.
