The Tube is reality

Clips from interviews and television programs are used in this examination of the proposition that network television does not represent reality but simulates a world that has been tailored to the requirements of the advertisers. Stereotyping and normalising of every emotion and personality is television's 'new form of censorship.' Beginning with the fifties Utopian image of America and the first use of television for political purposes, this program culminates in a brief consideration of public access television, the opening up of television by a small number of innovative programs such as the Simpsons and Beverley Hills 90210 and the implications of 'tabloid' or 'reality' television.
