Melvyn Bragg with Frank Delaney
An Oxford graduate, he received a traineeship at the BBC, moving in 1978 to London Weekend Television to set up The South Bank Show which he continues to edit and present. A vigorous and highly effective campaigner for the arts, Melvin Bragg was chairman of the Literature Panel of the Arts Council from 1977 to 1980 and has been head of arts for LWT since 1982.
