Inconsistencies in the victims' reports make the apprehension of prime suspect drag on. -- Ep. 14 - The Big Boys: Officers Smith and Friday receive a warning to be on the lookout for four armed fugitives who are heading for LA. • "Considered by many to be the best police drama in television history, DRAGNET originally aired throughout the 1950's. Following the adventures of Sgt. Joe Friday, the show starred Jack Webb, who also worked as the show's creator and director. Heavy attention to detail, documentary style narration, and story lines inspired by actual L.A.P.D. criminal files all gave this show an air of realism. This is a style that would be copied in the years to follow, with DRAGNET inspiring several spin-offs and one film adaptation. Rather than glamorizing the police profession, the show explored the nitty-gritty routine of police work, examining how the demands of the job affect one's personal life."@en

  • "Jack Webb became a part of our culture with his low key portrayal of Sergeant Joe Friday who just wanted "the facts ma'am". Three early episodes here are offered. "Big Betty" is a bunko con ring selling fake jewelry to vulnerable families. "Big counterfeit" pits Joe Friday against some slick counterfeiters. In "Murder at a Movie Studio", Joe and Frank must find a murderer during the filming at a motion picture studio."

  • "Los Angeles police officer Joe Friday, nephew of the legendary Detective Sgt. Joe Friday, works with his partner Pep Streebek to solve a series of strange robberies and they are soon on the track of the sinister Reverend Whirley, a corrupt police commissioner, and several petty criminals."
  • "The sparse, stunning style of the classic series "Dragnet" has influenced the police genre for over fifty years. Director/star Jack Webb struck new ground through his pursuit of authenticity, extracting the stories from actual LAPD cases and focusing on deductive and investigative police work. Begun in 1949 as a radio program, the original television series ran from 1952 through 1959 and was the most popular detective series of the decade. Three movies were produced featuring Joe Friday, including one in 1987 starring Dan Aykroyd. The series returned to the air in the 1960's for a second series and the legacy continues with the contemporary series starring Ed O'Neill. Some episodes based on radio plays by James E. Mosen."
  • "Four episodes of the television program."@en
  • "This is the city... and only Dan Aykroyd and Tom Hanks can save it in this hilarious box-office blockbuster that pays homage to the famed original police drama of the '50s and '60s. Aykroyd is at his comedic best as the namesake nephew of Detective Sgt. Joe Friday. Like his uncle, he's a blue-suited, by-the-rules cop who reluctantly joins forces with his footloose partner Pep Streebek (Hanks) to rescue the City of Angels from the machinations of a power-mad Reverend and corrupt Police Commissioners. And those are "just the facts" of this hysterically funny action-comedy."@en
