Artangel invited the Frankfurt-based choreographer, William Forsythe to begin work on a new commission. Later he was joined by two collaborators, Dana Caspersen and Joel Ryan in the Roundhouse designed by Robert Stephenson in 1847. In the six months that followed, a series of different strategies for animating the building were explored. Some involved dancers and Stephenson's original turntable technology; others were suggested by the cupola's potential to defract light. The distillation of these and many other ideas found their ultimate form in the work.
