Planning, implementing, and evaluating critical pathways a guide for health care survival into the 21st century

This is a practical guide to developing critical pathways for a multitude of settings - acute care, ambulatory, home care, rehabilitation, and long-term care. The book takes the reader from the very first steps of critical pathway design, through the ins-and-outs of implementation, and then assists the reader with evaluating patient and systems outcomes and improving practice. Concrete examples are given of how to adapt pathways to meet the needs of individual institutions and how to incorporate them into a continuous quality improvement process. Specific legal concerns are addressed in a chapter by attorneys who are also nurses; and an entire chapter is devoted to the computerization of pathways. This book doesn't simply provide critical pathways developed for other institutions, it shows how to create and tailor them.
