The Phil Silvers show Sergeant Bilko, vol. 1

Ernie Bilko was a fifties hero magnificently played by Phil Silvers as an authority figure in perpetual revolt against authority figures. This compilation features three episodes. In "The New Platoon" Bilko's poker playing leaves him $250 down, and out, as the Sergeant's faithful platoon members refuse to raise a bankroll for his comeback. This episode is also known as "The New Recruits" and was first broadcast in the US on 20 September 1955. In "The Empty Store", determined to 'keep out the riff-raff', Sergeants Grover, Pendleton and Sowici freeze Bilko out of their poker session because he still can't raise a bankroll. This was the only sequel in the Bilko series, continuing the story from the premiere episode and was first broadcast in the US on 27 September 1955. In "The Army Memoirs" Colonel Hall angrily demotes Sergeant Bilko to a private but, far from cowed, Bilko declares within a few hours he'll have the Colonel sewing the stripes back on-- double stitched.
