"Article deals with the Lanier Heights neighborhood of Washington, D.C., where several Smithsonian Institution employees lived in the 1880s. Among the founding residents were George Brown Goode, who was appointed Assistant Secretary of the Smithsonian in 1887, and Archibald Malcomb McLachlen, a businessman and real estate investor and developer. In 1886, German born architect Adolf Cluss designed a house built in Lanier Heights for John Smith, an assistant curator at the Smithsonian."
