http://schema.org/description

  • "Tim Sanford, artistic director of Playwrights Horizons since 1996, discusses his career with journalist Don Shewey. He begins with his arrival in New York as an aspiring director in the mid-1980s, and describes how he became literary manager at Playwrights Horizons under artistic director André Bishop. He examines the period after Bishop departed when Don Scardino took the position, and analyzes some of the difficulties that followed. Because Playwrights Horizons has always accepted unsolicited manuscripts Sanford touches on some of the issues that arise in the company's relationships with playwrights, and talks about a number of writers whose work has been produced by P.H. throughout its history, including Wendy Wasserstein and Christopher Durang. He describes the development of Annie Baker's recent play Circle mirror transformation in detail. He also discusses the development of musicals, and the renovation of Playwrights Horizon's space in the early 2000's."
