"La adenosina es un metabolito del nucleotido adenina. Su mecanismo de accion esta relacionado a la interaccion de dos tipos de receptores. Su principal efecto biologico es la vasodilatacion, el cual es consecuencia de la interaccion productiva de la adenosina con el receptor A. La adenosina es producida por las celulas cardiacas durante cualquier situacion en la cual el suministro de oxigeno es inadecuado. Sus vias de formacion son dos: desfosforilacion del 5' - AMP y la hidrolisis del S-adenosil-homocisteina. Las acciones de la ademosina estan dirigidas a mantener el equilibrio entre el suministro y la demanda de oxigeno. En situaciones de isquemia, la adenosina puede aumentar el flujo coronario en forma directa (vasodilatacion) o en forma indirecta, inhibiendo el crecimiento endotelial y previniendo la obstruccion mecanica de los vasos por neutrofilos y plaquetas(AU)."@es
