"Niveis alterados de PTH imunorreativo podem exercer influencia na perda de massa ossea apos a menopausa. Niveis elevados, normais e diminuidos ja foram descritos em mulheres portadoras de osteoporose com idade entre 60 e 65 anos. Este estudo mediu os niveis de PTH em mulheres osteopenicas mais jovens, pos-menopausadas, com idade entre 50 e 55 anos. Dez mulheres osteopenicas e 11 mulheres normais foram estudadas. Os niveis sericos de PTH aminoterminal foram estatisticamente mais baixos nas mulheres osteopenicas que nas mulheres controles normais. Os niveis de PTH carboxiterminal foram semelhantes nos dois grupos, Uma possivel explicacao para os resultados obtidos e que as mulheres osteopenicas tenham um limiar de resposta alterado para a secrecao de PTH.
