"Narra y cuestiona los aportes realizados por el Dr. James A. Drane a la historia de la bioetica en el Seminario Internacional de Bioetica "Ciencias sociales y bioetica : entrelazando miradas" realizado en Santiago de Chile, donde propone para el analisis de su origen tres acontecimientos, preguntandose si esta comienza en los 60's, cuando en el Estado de Washington un Comite de etica trata de establecer criterios para distribuir con justicia la escasa tecnologia existente para pacientes moribundos en dialisis renal. En segundo lugar, se pregunta si por el contrario el comienzo debe ubicarse a finales de los 60's y comienzos de los 70's, anos en que se fundan el Centro Hastings y el Instituto Kennedy, finalmente se cuestiona si mas bien el origen debiera de establecerse en 1971 cuando Van Rensselaer Potter publica su libro Bioetica, puente hacia el futuro.
