Matter waves

Dr. Germer presents a modern version of the original experiment which showed the wave behavior of the electron. Alan Holden shows electron diffraction patterns on a fluorescent screen, making the patterns understandable in terms of wave behavior by presenting an optical analogue showing almost identical patterns. Mr. Holden describes the electron diffraction experiments of Sir George Thomson and presents brief evidence for the wave behavior of other particles, such as neutrons and helium atoms.
