"A series of stories and novelettes in the style of the Decameron."
"Proslulý soubor novel z poloviny 16. století je dílem vysoce vzdělané královny, která se činně účastnila reformačního hnutí ve Francii. Hlavním námětem novel, v nichž vystupují lidé všech vrstev a stavů, je otázka lásky a manželství."
"A collection of stories in the style of Boccaccio's Decameron."
"Autobiography of Queene Marguerite, consort of King Henry II of France and biography of King Henry II of France."@en
"The Prologue serves to set up the plan under which the stories are told. Ten members of the high French nobility have assembled, for various reasons, in an abbey in the Pyrenees mountains. They expect to be there for several days while they wait for a bridge to be rebuilt. In order to amuse themselves, they agree that each member of the group (five women and five men) will tell a story each day, and that the stories must be true, things the tellers have observed for themselves or heard from a very reliable source. Originally intended to be a set of 10 stories a la The Decameron, Marguerite never finished the rest of them, hence the title."
"The stories of the Heptameron are related by five men and five women for their amusement and edification after they have taken refuge in a Pyrenean Abbey from a series of disasters. Their subjects range from the bawdy to the romantic, from anti-clerical humor to serious reflections on spiritual matters."@en
