"The famous stage actress Adriana Ford in her retirement is the head of a large household full of dependents. When a series of subtle yet suspicious accidents befalls her she contacts Miss Silver. During a large party, Ford is murdered and the next day her body is discovered lying in a silent pool of water in the garden."
